The Never Open Desert Diner review

I won The Never Open Desert Diner by James Anderson from The Reading Room giveaway. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like it but it sounded interesting. Given the premise, the writing was far more poetic than I expected it to be. It was abundant with universal truths and gorgeous visuals.

The slow pacing reminds me of how life probably moves in that corner of the world. The truth of the events at play slowly uncoil and show themselves one at a time. People’s lives, truths, and details are kept private, to be revealed only when they’re ready to show themselves.

While I loved this book, I don’t think I’ll read it again. It was beautiful but the ending reminded me exactly of this meme: “That moment when you finish a book and look around and realize everyone is carrying on with their lives as though you didn’t just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a paperback.”

There was an ending I was rooting for but it didn’t come to be. I don’t know if I can relive that again. It is absolutely worth the trip but brace your bookish little hearts. It comes out March 22.
